Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.
The following areas were reviewed:

· Hygiene and Communicable Disease Control
· Medication
· Nutrition and Food Services
· Program
· Records and Reporting
As part of the routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11080 - CCLR s.15(1)(a) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation: Children's food are stored in the facility refrigerator. A device to read the temperature of the refrigerator is unavailable. The temperature must be between 0-4 C.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure system such as a therometer is available.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13100 - DLSOP Active Play - The Licensee must develop and implement an Active Play Policy to engage children in daily active play, consisting of un-facilitated play and facilitated games and activities.
Observation: Licensee provided the Activities Policy, and has verbalized the Procedure of one hour.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure Policy is in place that provides information in writing regarding how and where the active play is conducted.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13120 - DLSOP Active Play - The Licensee must develop and implement a Screen Use Policy to guide employees in the use of screen time activities.
Observation: Screen Use Policy is written as an Entertainment Policy, information needs to be updated, as the Tv does not work, although use of TV is mentioned in the Entertainment Policy
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure Policies are update to date

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19370 - DLSOP Safe Play Space (maintenance of equipment [b3]) - [bullet 3] Keep a log of all inspections, maintenance and repairs.
Observation: Outdoor log of inspection, maintenance and repair is unavailable.

Comments

Licensing discussed with the Licensee that updated information regarding information child's registration must be in place to ensure information is accurate and further intervention is not required.
Children were active free play with variety of equipment.
