Introduction

An announced routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance with a focus on health and hygiene practices during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Previous Inspection - Not Applicable
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12190 - CCLR s.22(2)(b) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.
Observation: A conversation with staff indicated that fire drills had not been practiced since March, 2020.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that each employee practices implementing the fire drills system at least once each month.
Date to be Corrected: August-31-2020.


Comments

At the inspection dated August 17th/20, there were 6 children in care with 1 staff member.
A COVID-19 Risk Screening was conducted before the inspection.
At the inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified.
Please provide Licensing with a written response, by the date noted below, stating how the identified contraventions will be addressed in order to ensure year round compliance.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.
This report was written off site due to COVID-19 safety practices. The contraventions and summary items identified in the report were reviewed with the staff before Licensing's departure.
A copy of the report and the corresponding Risk Assessment was emailed to the Manager.
The following items were discussed:
-Planned emergency response during COVID-19.
-Communicable disease prevention practices.
-Health/hygiene/sanitizing practices during COVID-19 which included review of cleaning and sanitizing as multiple steps.
-Identifying a medical care provider for children who do not have a family physician.
-COVID-19 safety plan for staff must be developed and posted at the facility.
