Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), The Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During the inspection the climber was observed in the play area. This was placed close to the window and there was no resilient surfacing on one side of the climber. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-CBEV5N and #CLAN-CNNQ79
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the climber is not placed next to the window, ensure a 6 foot fall radius is maintained at all times and resilient surfacing is placed all around the climber within a 6 foot radius.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Licensing observed the following:
-The fire extinguisher requires servicing annually. The fire extinguisher was required to be serviced on January 18, 2024
-More food and water is required for the emergency kit. Licensing recommended a rolling suitcase or a wagon to transport heavy supplies. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-CNNQ79
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure you have the supplies and materials to be prepared in case of an emergency.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: The children's files were reviewed. Two children are missing a medical insurance plan number
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children's records are complete with an MSP number or medical insurance on file.

Comments

At the inspection dated February 12, 2024 there were 3 children, 1 staff and the Licensee was present during the inspection. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please correct the above noted contraventions by Jan 30, 2024 unless otherwise specified in the report. As part of the inspection the Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was provided to the Licensee.

The following was discussed with the Licensee:

-Reportable incident reporting
-Lead in the water
-The maintenance plan for the facility
-The cleaning protocols that are in place for the facility
-Adding a CPR mask or protective breathing barrier to the first aid kit
