Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation: The Manager is unaware of the active play or screen use policy.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that all records are kept current and an active play and screen use policy are available.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19030 - CCLR s.55(2)(a) - A licensee must notify the medical health officer within 24 hours after (a) a child is involved in, or may have been involved in, a reportable incident described in Schedule H while under the care or supervision of the licensee.
Observation: A reportable incident where a child received medical attention was not reported to Licensing. A copy of the reportable incident bulletin was provided.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that any incident described in schedule H is reported to Licensing within 24 hours. Please provide the Licensing Officer your plan on how you will ensure all staff are aware of the reportable incident requirements.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated March 4, 2019 there were 14 children and 3 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response and conduct a follow up inspection. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Promoting Active Play in the program
· Active Supervision
· Lead in the Water
