Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation: During inspection licensing observed: - Doors of a cupboard in the toddler program were not fully closing making it’s contents accessible to children. During the inspection facility's maintenance person arrived and stated that a latch will be placed on the cupboard today. - In the toddler outdoor play area strings on a tarp were accessible to children. Staff removed it while licensing was present. Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times. Date to be Corrected: June 7,2021

Comments

At the inspection dated June 4, 2021 above noted contraventions were identified. Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The following were discussed with the manager: · Spring cleaning of outdoor grassy play area · Refer to DOLSOP-Safe spaces for placement of outdoor play dome · Placement of sleeping equipment for children's use · Documentation of earthquake drills · Child proof gate on the storage room to be secured at all times · Posting manager’s name in a prominent and a visible location The inspection report was written off-site – details were reviewed with the licensee prior to writing the report. A copy of the routine inspection report and risk assessment sent to manager via email on June 4, 2021.
