Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were reviewed for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: During inspection Licensing tested the hot water used to wash children's hands, and noted that it read 52 C.

Licensee stated that staff are with children when they wash their hands and ensure that both hot & cold water is being used to prevent scalding.
Corrective Action(s): Lower hot water temperature to not more than 49C.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated Jan. 15, 2019 there were 5 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified.
Licensee to contact Licensing once hot water temperature has been adjusted and Licensing will conduct a follow up inspection.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

During inspection Licensing observed children: engaged in art; circle time with songs,stories & sequencing games; free play & getting ready to go outside for free play.

During inspection Licensing observed staff interacting with children while they were engaged in activities.
