Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSOP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.
The following areas were reviewed: Licensing; Physical Facility; Staffing; Polices & Procedures; Care & Supervision; Hygiene and Communicable Disease Control; Medication; Nutrition and Food Services; Program; Records and Reporting
As part of the Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Live 5210 Program was discussed with manager, Live 5210 resource package left at time of inspection.
Inspection report was reviewed with manager before report was signed and printed.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection Licensing noted that the manager's name was not posted.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure manager's name is posted in a prominent place.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: During inspection Licensing reviewed children's records and noted that the sex of each child was not indicated on the records.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all required documentation is on site for children enrolled.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection Licensing noted that one child in care had not been signed in on the sign in sheet.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all children are noted on the sign in sheet with time of arrival and departure noted.

Comments

During inspection Licensing observed children engaged in a circle with the story telling and music.

Licensing also observed children engaged in outdoor play.

Licensing observed staff interacting with children throughout their activities as well as informing children about transitions to new activities.
