Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,
Observation: One staff file was missing evidence of an updated certificate validation
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to have this on file for each staff

HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation: - The diaper change mat is not being sanitized between each use
- the sheets are kept on the sleep mats but not used by the same child each day
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to practice and promote rules of hygiene to help prevent cross contamination and spread of illness

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: There are some days when the school age children are not signed in and out accuratley
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to record attendance accurately

Comments

At the inspection dated Oct 16, 2019 there were 3 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
 Promoting Active Play in the program
 Active Supervision

The following resources were provided:
 3 sink method for washing dishes
- bleach/water solution; this solution needs to be made everyday
