Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standard of Practice (DOLSOP). All care categories were assessed for compliance.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Licensing reviewed the emergency supplies; there was not enough food and water for everyone. Other supplies such as blankets and flashlights were not stocked.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee must ensure that all emergency kits have enough food, water, and other supplies for each person for 72 hours in an emergency.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: Fire drill records were reviewed; February 2024 was missing
Corrective Action(s): Licensee must ensure that fire drills are practiced and recorded every month.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: Licensing reviewed 8 children's files; 1 child was missing their MSP # and immunization status.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee must ensure that children's files are complete.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Licensing observed 8 children's files; 1 missing their medical practitioner's name and telephone number.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee must ensure that children's files are complete.

At the inspection dated March 7, 2024, there were 5 children in care with 1 staff.
At the inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified.
Please provide Licensing with a written response, by the date noted below, stating how the identified contraventions will be addressed in order to ensure year round compliance.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed. A copy of the report and the corresponding Risk Assessment was emailed to the Manager.
