Introduction

A scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). In response to the current Covid 19 pandemic this inspection focused on the following areas:
-Physical Facility
-Health and Hygiene
-Records and Reporting

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11160 - CCLR s.16(3)(a) - A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.
Observation: During the inspection the gate in the outdoor play area was observed. The gate was broken on the bottom, and was easily openned. This presents a serious safety concern. Ensuring active supervision around the area where the gate was located was discussed.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the entire outdoor play area is enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of the children in care.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: During the inspection rust was noted on a heater at the children's level. This could present a health hazard.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to any objects or substances that may be hazardous to their health and safety.

Comments

At the inspection dated May 13, 2020 there were 3 children, two staff and the Director was present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please send a written response to Licensing addressing how you have corrected the above noted contraventions by May 28, 2020. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was sent to the Director.

The following was reviewed/discussed with the Director:

· Information sent out to the Licensee regarding the following: sanitization/disinfection, social distancing, hand washing and health and wellness policy.
· The coronavirus COVID-19 public health guidance for child care settings
· Placing all of the children's names on one attendance sheet.
· Closing or limiting the width of windows when children are in the room to prevent a potential falling hazard.

The following resource was given to the Director:

· Resource Package for Child Care facilities COVID-19 prevention

The inspection findings were reviewed with the Director at the inspection. The inspection report and the risk assessment were completed at the Burnaby Health Protection office. The report was written in .5 hours and this is included in the report. A copy of these documents were sent to the Director.
