Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: The following were observed during this inspection:
-A section of broken plexi glass with a sharp edge on the bottom of a toilet stall door in the children's bathroom.
-Exposed foam on the change pad making it difficult to sanitize.
-Areas of exposed drywall throughout the facility.
-A hole in one area of the wall in the nap room.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all areas of the facility are in good repair.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Dish soap was being stored in a cupboard that was accessible to children.
Corrective Action(s): The dish soap was moved during this inspection.

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated January 13, 2022 there were four children and four staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. This report was reviewed with the staff and written off site. A copy of this report will be emailed to the manager. Time spent includes office time.
