Introduction

A scheduled routineinspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Licensing reviewed 3 staff files and it was found that 1 staff persons CRC had expired in 2018. Director was unable to find an application or copy of a new CRC.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that criminal record checks are up to date and complete for all staff.
Date to be Corrected: immediately.


Comments

At the inspection dated September 9th 2020, there were 24 children and 6 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following education/recommendations were provided to the Director:

Outdoor playspace:
Discussion regarding the plants and foliage in the play area are safe for children. The facility offers outdoor orientated play with access to natural environment and growth of foliage. Please ensure maintenance is overseeing any overgrowth to ensure the environment remains safe for children to explore.
Ensure that their is no standing water in the play area. Water must be dumped and replenished to avoid contamination and risk to children.
No shared snacks at this time as per the Covid 19 resource package for child care facilities that was provided during inspection.
Ensuring that the medication administration forms have complete details as to how, what and when the medication should be administered to children in care.
First aid certificates are available for all staff that have a current first aid. There must be a person with first aid available at all times.

A business card was provided. Two Licensing officers attended this routine inspection for training purposes. This report was discussed with the Director prior to leaving the facility and written off site. A copy will be emailed to the facility.
