Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.
The following areas were reviewed: Licensing; Physical Facility; Staffing; Polices & Procedures; Care & Supervision; Hygiene and Communicable Disease Control; Medication; Nutrition and Food Services; Program; Records and Reporting
As part of the Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: During inspection Licensing reviewed Emergency Drill record and noted that no drill was recorded for the month of April.
Staff stated that an emergency drill had been recorded in the month of April but had not been recorded.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all emergency drills are recorded as proof that they were conducted.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: During inspection Licensing randomly three child files and noted that one child is missing their immunization status.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all required documentation is on site for children enrolled.

Comments

During inspection Licensing reviewed staff documentation and noted all required documentation is located at head office.

During inspection Licensing observed the following activities/ equipment accessible to children: Indoors: dramatic play with real kitchen accessories; dollhouse; children have been creating with clay etc.

During inspection children were outside where they had access to: painting on canvas; chalk art; water play; digging with real shovels in the sand area; playing with cars in the sand area.

Licensing observed vegetable and herb gardens that children can water & interact with,

Licensing observed staff engaged with children in their activities as well as getting down to their level to assist with any challenges they were having.
