Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #DCAR-B6RPF9 have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11080 - CCLR s.15(1)(a) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation: Licensing observed a full length mirror leaning against the wall by the door leading to the outdoor play space. The mirror was observed to be heavy and not sturdy posing potential risk of injury should it fall.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that equipment and furniture are sturdy and free from hazard.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a sealed bottle of vitamins in a drawer at child height. The drawer was unlocked making the vitamins accessible to children in care.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that children do not have access to any substance that may be hazardous to the health and safety of a child.

NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES: 17120 - CCLR s.48(6) - A licensee must make available to parents information on the food and drink given to children.
Observation: Licensing observed that information regarding afternoon snack was not made available to the parents.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that information on the food and drinks given to children is made available to parents.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated January 23. 2020, there were 13 children and 3 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.

There were two Licensing Officers present at this inspection for the purpose of training. As this report was written off site, contraventions identified during the inspection were verbally reviewed with the licensee. The licensee was informed of the items noted as contravention in this report during the inspection.
Facility's Nutrition Policy was reviewed. Licensing discussed systems to ensure that facility practice reflects policy.
Licensee to provide a written response by February 6, 2020 including how areas found to be in noncompliance are addressed. Licensing will respond to acknowledge receipt.
