Critical Hazards: There are no critical hazards.
Non-Critical Hazards: Total Number: 2
304 - Premises not free of pests [s. 26(a)]
Observation: Systemic rodent infestation present in the facility. Signs of rodents were observed in the following areas:
1) Dead mouse observed in the lentils in the back storage area.
2) Some old rodent droppings located in the pepper section of the walk-in produce cooler, underneath the stored shopping carts.
3) In the bread section, rodent droppings observed in the bottom shelf where the pound cakes were stored. Some rodent droppings were also spotted ON TOP of the pound cakes (discarded at time of inspection).
4) Onion skid section: Numerous droppings located underneath the electrical panel and also where the gol gappa are stored. Gol gappa packages that were contaminated where voluntarily discarded by the employee.
5) Along aisle 6, in the corner underneath the disposable cups. Please also address rodent droppings alongside wall behind aisle 6.
6) A few droppings noted in the banana sectino in the corner where the roasted peanuts are stored.
7) UPSTAIRS bag room
8) Behind and underneath the microwave UPSTAIRS.
Corrective Action(s): All rodent droppings are to be removed with 1 part bleach, 9 part water solution. Soak rodent droppings in the strong bleach solution for 10-15 minutes, and then remove with a paper towel. Sanitize the area with a weaker bleach solution afterwards (1 teaspoon per litre of bleach). Ensure that you wear personal protective equipment, including gloves.

Contact your professional pest control company on measures to reduce rodent entry, including sealing up holes behind walls and aisles. Of importance are any walls with piping protruding outwards, which may expose holes where rodents could enter. Continue to monitor for rodent activity and remove any droppings that are noted immediately.

Date to be corrected by: July 5th and ongoing
Violation Score: 15

306 - Food premises not maintained in a sanitary condition [s. 17(1)]
Observation: Aisle 1 underneath the bulk storage bins is heavily contaminated with fallen debris.
Corrective Action(s): Bulk storage bin area is to be swept at the end of the day. Ensure that you sweep up any fallen food debris as soon as possible, as these can be attractants for rodents.

Date to be corrected by: End of day today
Violation Score: 3

Comments

Routine inspection conducted of grocery store. No processing of vegetables is conducted on-site. Re-packaging of onions occurs occasionally in the back produce area.

1. Temperatures
- Walk-in produce cooler at 3C
- Walk-in store / dairy cooler at approximately 3C
- Reach-in produce display coolers at 4C or less
- Beverage and product display coolers maintained at 4C or less
- Walk-in freezer compartment at -30C
- Chest freezers maintained at -18C or below

2. Hygiene and Sanitizing
- Hand wash station in restroom and in back-of-house stocked with hot/cold running water, liquid soap, and single-use paper towels. Ensure that the hand wash station is always accessible for use by employees when needed
- Bleach available when needed (for disinfection of areas contaminated with rodent droppings, use 1 part bleach, 9 parts water)

3. Storage
- All food products stored at least 6" off the floor
- Items sold are typically pre-packaged, with the exception of bulk bin items, peanuts, and lentils
- Operators were reminded to keep scoops outside of the food product (e.g. use a separate container for the scoops)

4. Pest Control
- Professional pest control company arrives once a week. However, rodent activity is elevated at this routine inspection. Mechanical traps are being reset, but rodent droppings and potential entranceways are not continually assessed
- Please send most recent pest control report to the Environmental Health Officer

It is expected that you work with your pest control company to seal off entranceways and keep your delivery doors closed when not in use. Next inspection will verify that sanitation and deficiencies with rodent droppings are addressed.
