Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act(CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed the following:
·Adult scissors in the drawer which is accessible to the children
·Adult knives stored in the dish drying rack. The manager stated the dishes were just done after the children ate snack. [CORRECTED DURING THE INSPECTION]
·In the nap room there are floating cabinets secured to the wall. Some of these cabinets contain heavy items inside. There are playpens and mats located underneath which children use during naptime. In the event of an earthquake, the items could fall out of the cupboards and onto the children.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19250 - CCLR s.58(2)(a) - The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.
Observation: A random selection of children’s files were reviewed. Out of the 6 files reviewed, 1 contained information that a child required a care plan. The manager stated the child no longer has the allergy stated in the file.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure the child’s file is updated with the most relevant information regarding allergies.

Summary of Inspection:
At the inspection dated February 23, 2022 there were 6 children in care with 1 staff and the Licensee.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.
Action required by the licensee includes providing a written response by March 2, 2022 .
Actions required by Licensing include reviewing the written response.

The following education and discussions was provided:
Covid-19 immunization status for staff
Reference check for a newly hired staff
Diaper changing practices

This report was written off site and a copy of both the report and Risk Assessment was emailed to the facility.
