HAZARD RATING FOR YOUR FACILITY: Low (≤15) Total Score = 6
Critical Hazards: There are no critical hazards.
Non-Critical Hazards: Total Number: 2
208 - Foods obtained from unapproved sources [s. 11]
Observation: Operator did not have invoices available on site to show where the meats and other products are being purchased from. Some unlabelled containers of prepackaged ready-to-eat items (green chutney and macaroni potato salad) were found in display coolers. Operator informed that they are from a restaurant in Abbotsford and they are approved under Fraser Health. She mentioned that they have invoices at home.
Corrective Action(s): Keep invoices on site as proof of purchase from approved sources. Food items should be labelled according to Health Canada's label requirements so consumers can be better informed about the ingredients such as allergens. Date to be corrected by: June 10, 2021.
Violation Score: 3

209 - Food not protected from contamination [s. 12(a)]
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Two containers of marinaded meats were left uncovered in the walk-in cooler.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all food items are kept covered in the coolers to prevent cross-contamination.
Violation Score: 3

Comments

Routine inspection conducted. Facility is approved to sell raw meat only.

Temperatures:
- Walk-in cooler: 2C
- Display meat coolers (2): 4C, one of the coolers was undergoing the defrost cycle at the time of inspection.
- Display coolers for prepackaged items: <4C
- Display freezer for prepackaged items: <-18C
- Chest freezers (3): <-18C
All units had accurate thermometers.

Sanitation:
- Hand washing sinks were adequately equipped with hot/cold running water, liquid soap, and disposable paper towels.
- Sanitizer spray bottle had 200 ppm bleach solution.
- 3-compartment sinks were not in use at the time of inspection but plugs were available. Operator was aware of bleach to water ratios for setting up the 3rd sink.
- Meat cutter in the food preparation area is cleaned and sanitized every 2 hours. Ensure logs are kept to track the sanitation process.
- Meat grinder in the walk-in cooler is cleaned and sanitized at the end of the day and between processing different products. As long as the meat is processed at 4C or below, this practice is acceptable. However, if you move the meat grinder outside the cooler and process meat at room temperature, the grinder must be cleaned and sanitized every 2 hours to prevent the growth of pathogens.
- Overall sanitation was satisfactory.

Pest Activity:
- No signs of pest activity were noted at the time of inspection.
- Food was stored off the floor.
- Back door was closed at the time of inspection.

COVID-19 Safety:
- Signs were posted for physical distancing and mask use.
- The facility is family run. The only staff present is the owner, her husband, and her two kids at alternative times.
- Hand sanitizer is available at the cashier station.
- Ensure the COVID-19 Safety Plan is updated to comply with the newest Public Health Orders.

Signature not required due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Inspector will return to follow-up on the violations above.
