Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing of Practice (DLSP). All categories of care were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation: During the inspection licensing observed that the sails meant to provide shade in both playgrounds had a corner dangling.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that sails are hooked up in a safe manner.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: During the routine inspection licensing observed that on various days children have not been signed out or in.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that accurate attendance is taken and maintained.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Licensing reviewed 8 children's files and the following was observed:
- one child's file was missing an emergency pick up person
- one child's file was missing a doctor's name and phone number.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children's files are complete.

Comments

At the inspection dated March 07, 2024 there were 21 children, 5 staff and the manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The licensee is required to address the contraventions, bring the facility into compliance, and provide a written response to Licensing by the date written below. Licensing will review the response.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following was discussed:
· To maintain the integrity of communication between staff and relevant information regarding children, it was recommended that the facility used a bound book.
· Ensuring that the emergency supplies do not contain any allergens given that the facility has children with life threatening allergies and providing emergency supplies for children who have allergies.
· Licensing observed that one room did not have a fire extinguisher. Licensing observed that the room has a stove that will be used for cooking activities in the future. Licensing advised manager to call the fire department and inquire about the fire extinguishers in every room.
· A conversation was had regarding the system the facility uses in taking and maintaining attendance. It was recommended that when and if the Internet fails, a paper copy could be used to maintain accurate attendance.
· A conversation was had regarding the updating of policies and procedures to reflect current practice. At the time of the inspection it was observed that the facility uses a catering company to provide meals.
