Introduction

An unscheduled follow up inspection to the routine inspection #ABEY-B7KPE8 dated December 17, 2018 was conducted. Areas of noncompliance identified at the routine inspection were reviewed for compliance.

The Licensee was present for today's inspection and they were able to meet with the writer

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): It was observed that a kettle was placed close to the edge of a counter. It was plugged in and water was boiled. This kettle poses the risk of burns and scalding if it is pulled from the counter
Corrective Action(s): The kettle was moved back on the counter and out of reach of children

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must have all of the following: (b) an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): In discussion with the manager, it was stated that fire drills are conducted on a monthly basis, but they have not been recorded for the month of April or May
Corrective Action(s): A sheet is available that states when fire drills are conducted. This sheet was filled in with the fire drills that were done previously

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation: It was observed that an active play policy and a screen time policy have not been developed. The manager was unaware that policies specific to the center need to be developed and shared, but a copy of the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice for Active Play were sent out to families
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure an active play and screen time policy are developed and implemented

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: It was observed that the attendance record for every day previous is maintained, but no children were signed in or out today
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure attendance records are maintained on a daily basis

Comments

At the inspection dated June 14, 2019 there were 7 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.

The following items were discussed with the facility manager;
-Supplies has been obtained for the emergency kit. The supplies is kept in a container with water present nearby. Manager stated water packs will be bought to place inside the kit
-Children's records were available for inspection and only relevant records were kept
