Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A container of liquid soap was placed on the carpet in the hallway before entering the kitchen.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the container of liquid soap is stored in a place away from the reach of children.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must have all of the following: (b) an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Licensing observed that the fire extinguisher was missing the service tag.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the fire extinguisher is serviced with the tag attached, and ready to use in an event of an emergency.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: During inspection, it was noted that the monthly fire drill and annual emergency drill have not been recorded.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the monthly fire drill and annual emergency drill are recorded.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: During inspection, it was noted that one child was missing their immunization status.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the child has their immunization status on file.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation: During inspection, Licensing reviewed children's records and noted that the starting date of one child was missing.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure the child's starting date is on file.

Comments

At the inspection dated June 17, 2021 there was 1 staff and no children present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee include providing a written response.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
A COVID-19 Risk Screening was also completed.
Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility.
The following education/recommendations were provided:
- Increased indoor ventilation
- Organization of records and files in a designated location
- Continue to sanitize and clean the facility including toys and equipment
- Reportable incident procedures
- Removing items with a Drug Identification Number in the first aid kit
- Information to be entered in the incident log book
