Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act(CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations(CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of practice (DoLSoP).

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Licensing observed:
-two high chairs, one inside and one outside which were visibly soiled. (one high chair was cleaned while licensing was on site)
-Bathroom toilet visibly soiled (corrected during inspection)
-Inside wall in three areas had exposed drywall. Licensee stated they had identified the areas needing to be repaired and painted, and was planning to complete those this weekend.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it area clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Two electrical outlets had plug covers that were not engaged, and one outlet was covered by tape. Licensee pulled out new plug covers and replaced the ineffective plug covers during inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that children do not have acess to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19320 - CCLR s.59(a) - In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.
Observation: Manager records were unavailable to review at the time of inspection. Licensing provided education that a multi age facility must have a staff file for the Licensee on site.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to develop a staff file for Licensee who is the manager.

During today’s inspection, there were 4 children, and the Licensee present.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.
