Routine inspection.
Services being provided: Tanning (3 beds, 1 stand up) and IPL Laser services (hair removal, skin treatment) ONLY.
No red light therapy, no teeth whitening, no lash extensions at this time. Notify Fraser Health of any changes, new services, etc.
Note: You are not permitted to provide any services that are restricted under the Health Professions Act.
Tanning:
- Health warning signs posted in tanning rooms. Notify Fraser Health if you need more signs.
- Age restriction sign posted at front reception.
- Staff trained regarding client safety. Keep certificates on site.
- Timers are controlled by front reception (client cannot add time themselves).
- Tanning beds all have the emergency shut off button (as per operator as not all rooms available for inspection).
- Tanning beds are serviced regularly (2x per year).
- Operator advises that the tanning bulbs purchased are as per the manufacturer's specifications (type of bulb, bulb intensity, etc.) and that the bulbs are all replaced at the same time.
- Clients using tanning bed purchase their own "peepers" protective eyewear and eyewear is not re-used on other clients (single client only/client takes home).
- Client eyewear allows client to see emergency buttons, etc.
- A low level quats disinfectant is used to disinfect the tanning bed surfaces after each client.
- Tanning bed disinfectant label advises that a 10 minute contact time is required to provide adequate disinfection. ***Provide update that this will be done and update your infection control plan.
- Bulbs are protected by a plastic cover (no direct contact with bulbs). Note that not all rooms were checked today.
Laser:
- ***Check with IPL laser manufacturer regarding signs that would need to be posted. - See above.
- Eyewear for technician - was purchased from manufacturer for use specifically with this machine.
- Tanning bed (Peepers) eyewear is being used for client - ***Immediately provide written information from manufacturer that these are suitable for use with this laser.
- Client eyewear is re-used on other clients and is not being disinfected with a high level disinfectant (alcohol used) - see above.
- *** Keep laser manual on site.
- ***Keep training certificates on site for laser training.
- IPL laser has Medical Device Licence as per operator (not verified today but same laser as previously approved).
- Disposable razor is used. ***Provide a sharps container for razor disposal - see above.
- Laser room has a hand washing sink with hot/cold water, liquid soap, single use hand towels.
General:
- Cleaning needs to improve - see above.
- Paper towels and toilet paper in staff/client washroom require dispensers (liquid soap is provided) - Note that the washroom is scheduled to be renovated - see above.
- Laundry washed on site. Use hot dry.
- Mouse droppings noted in the laundry room (floor behind dryer/washing machines) - see above.
