Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Files for four staff were reviewed. A criminal record check for one staff was not available.
Corrective Action(s): The Licensee will ensure a valid criminal record check is available for all staff working at the facility.

STAFFING: 12050 - CCLR s.19(1)(b) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation: Four staff files were reviewed. Evidence of references being checked was not available for one staff.
Corrective Action(s): The Licensee will ensure all references are checked and evidence of this available.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated March 25, 2024 there were seven children and two staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. This report was reviewed with the Licensee Contact and written on site. A copy of this report will be emailed to the manager.
