Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed the following:

In the 30 months to School Age program, outdoor area: oven of outdoor play kitchen is broken and exposing sharp edges.

In the under 36 months program, outdoor area:
1) Fabric underlay exposed in some areas of the sand box posing a tripping hazard. As per the Manager, a sand refill is planned for next week.

2) Detangled hose posing as a tripping hazard. As per program staff, the hose will be stored back onto the desginated reel.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure broken equipment is appropriately addressed.
Please ensure tripping hazards are appropriately addressed.

Comments

At today’s inspection, there were 34 children, 6 staff present, and the Manager present.

At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified and the Licensee is required to submit a compliance plan by the date below.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was provided to the facility along with this report.
The Risk Assessment includes any non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation and is used to determine inspection frequency.

The following was discussed:
-Use of logbook
-Storage of emergency medication
-System for notification of injury
-Outdoor safety check
-Snack menu available and posted across programs
-Walk-in clinic satisfies doctor name and # information
- Licensing Duty line: #604 587 3936 for emergencies if area Licensing Officer can’t be contacted.
- Regular review of BCCDC website for COVID-19 updates (see link below)
