Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR), and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSOP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations

STAFFING: 12050 - CCLR s.19(1)(b) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person. Observation: Licensing reviewed 6 staff files and noted that records of character reference checks were missing for 2 staff. Corrective Action(s): Ensure record of character reference checks for all staff prior to employment. Date to be Corrected: 09-Aug-2021

Comments

At this inspection, there were 12 children and 6 staff present. At this inspection, the above noted contravention was identified. The following was discussed with the staff and Manager: - Group size and employee to children ratio - Care plans As part of the routine inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed. The inspection report was written off-site due to COVID-19 protocol – all details were reviewed with the Manager prior to writing the report. A copy of the inspection report and risk assessment will be e-mailed to the Manager.
