Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing of Practice (DLSP). All categories of care were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Upon inspecting the outdoor facility it was noted that the fence was leaning inwards, towards the play area of the facility. One plank was missing and it was found to be on the ground. It was observed that two of the supporting poles were rotted at the bottom, causing the fence to fall. The licensee said that fence has been damaged due to the recent snow fall.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the fence is repaired or replaced.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: Licensing reviewed 8 children's files and two children's files were missing the MSP number.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children's files are complete.

Comments

At the inspection dated January 26, 2024 there were 6 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee and actions required the LO included here. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
- When licensing arrived on site a child was eating lunch and the rest of the children were in the nap room with the licensee getting ready to nap. Licensee said that she was going between the nap room and the eating area and monitoring all children. It was recommended that the licensee provides continuous supervision to all children in care at all times.
- Eight children's files were were reviewed and two children were missing a doctor's name. Licensee said she will speak with the parents today about the doctor's name.

Valid CRC, confirmed expiry date with licensee.
