Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted on to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Licensing noted a Tricycle in the outdoor playground with rusty handle bars and pedals.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the Tricycle is cleaned and free of rust or removed from the playground.

STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: 5 staff files were reviewed of which one staff had a criminal record check that is not site specific.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a Criminal Record Check is obtained for all employees that is site specific. Until a Criminal record check is obtained that is site specific for said employee, they are not to be left alone with the children or support during toileting.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: 5 childrens files were reviewed of which 1 child was missing the contact name and phone number for an emergency contact
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children's files are complete and up to date.

Comments

At the inspection on December 22, 2021 there were 13 children, 4 staff and 1 manager present
At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed off site and a copy was provided.
