Introduction

A scheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSOP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance. A COVID-19 risk screening assessment was completed for the facility prior to this inspection.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12160 - CCLR s.20(1) - The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.
Observation: Licensing was notified by the Licensee while on site that a person over the age of 12 who is ordinarily on premises has not obtained a criminal record check.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure criminal record checks are completed for persons over the age of 12 who are ordinarily present.

Comments

At this inspection dated June 16, 2020, there were 2 children and the Licensee present. At this inspection, the above noted contravention was identified.

The following was discussed with the licensee:
· COVID-19 prevention strategies
· Snack and mealtimes
· Fire drills
· Emergency kits

Licensee stated a compliance plan will be submitted, while waiting for the arrival of the criminal record check.

As part of the routine inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.
The inspection report was written off-site due to COVID-19 protocol – all details were reviewed with the Licensee prior to writing the report. A copy of the inspection report and risk assessment were e-mailed to the Licensee on June 16, 2020.
