Introduction

A scheduled focused routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). Areas of the facility that were inspected for compliance were physical facility, care and supervision and health and hygiene.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Licensing observed a highchair with a cushion cloth cover with many stains, grime and food particles on the buckle and seat cover. The Manager informed Licensing that they cannot take the cover off to wash it. Licensing informed the Manager how the cover can be removed. Licensing provided education on the importance of ensuring that all the furniture, equipment and fixtures within the care facility are clean and in good repair to prevent the spread of germs.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the furniture, equipment and fixtures within the care facility are clean and in good repair.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the routine inspection conducted today, May 11, 2020, there were three children and the Manager present. The Risk Screening - COVID 19 form was completed prior to conducting the inspection. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. The Licensee is required to correct all identified non-compliances by the dates indicated above in the violations section. A written response is to be provided to Licensing on the date specified for Licensing to review that appropriate corrective action has been taken to address all identified non-compliances. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed.
The following education/recommendations were provided:
COVID-19 prevention ; social distancing, cleaning and sanitization practices and hand washing
Children's emergency contact information
Criminal record checks
Developmentally and age appropriate furniture

The inspection findings were reviewed with the Licensee at the time of the inspection. This report was written off site ( .25 hrs ) due to the Covid-19 pandemic to help promote health and hygiene. A copy of this report and the risk assessment will be emailed to the facility.
