401 - Adequate handwashing stations not available for employees [s. 21(4)]
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): 1) 2 Handsinks in the front kitchen area were obstructed. One by the drive through window was blocked by the panini grill machine, and one beside the ice cappucino machine was blocked by an oven.
2) No liquid soap available at either of the two handsinks in the front counter area (beside the cash registers).
Corrective Action(s): Handsinks that are not properly equipped with liquid soap, paper towels, hot running water, and are not accessible to employees is a critical violation. Handwashing is a key component to preventing transmission of bacteria that can cause food borne illness. Glove use is NOT an adequate replacement for handwashing, nor is alcohol sanitizer.
Refill soap and unbllock handsinks immediately.

Observation: Operator could not locate the operating permit at time of inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Permit must be displayed in a conspicuous location for the public to see. A valid operating permit verifies that the establishment is routinely inspected by Fraser Health.

306 - Food premises not maintained in a sanitary condition [s. 17(1)]
Observation: 1) Old fly sticky traps with several flies on them hanging from ceiling beside the walk in cooler/freezer. Supervisor said the sticky fly trap is old and not new.
2) Food debris underneath sandwich prep cooler
Corrective Action(s): 1) Change fly trap immediately. Do not keep dead flies hanging from your ceiling.
2) Clean floors and beside food equipment regularly and thoroughly.

Observation: Hot water at handwash stations in the front area were <38 deg C, varying between 31-35 deg C (only the handwash station in the kitchen/back area was at >38 deg C).
Corrective Action(s): Repair the hot water isssue immediately. ALL handsinks should have hot running water at >38 deg C at all times (and not just one or two).

502 - In operator’s absence, no staff on duty has FOODSAFE Level 1 or equivalent [s. 10(2)]
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Initially, there was no staff with FoodSafe certification at time of inspection. Later during inspection, manager started shift and is FoodSafe certified.
Corrective Action(s): There must be at least ONE staff member at all times that has FoodSafe certication in order to keep the kitchen in operation.
Keep copies of staff's FoodSafe certificates on site at all times.
