Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that window blind cords are at a length accessible to children
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a can of WD-40 at a level accessible to children
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that children do not have access to any objects or substances that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

Comments

At today’s inspection there were 2 children and the manager present. Licensing conducted a walk through of the entire facility.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer by November 29, 2022 The Licensing Officer will review the response.
As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed. The risk assessment includes any non-compliance identified during the routine inspection, a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation. This is used to determine inspection frequency.
The contents of the inspection report were reviewed with the manager and written on-site. A copy of this report will be emailed to the manager on November 22, 2022 and a paper copy mailed to the facility.
The following was discussed with the manager;
- Reminder about educators licence renewal
- Reminder about fire extinguisher service
- Requirements if using DIN (Drug Identification Number) in first aid kits
- Illness policy
- Ensuring information throughout children's registration forms is complete
- Repayment policy and emergency plan
- Naproom closet door maintenance
