Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance excluding the away play space.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During the inspection the following was observed inside the facility:
-a loose cord was noted on the floor within easy reach of the children
-a phone jack was taped to the wall. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-BAATR8
-a broken outlet cover was observed

Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Licensing observed the following during the inspection:
-Trasfer strips in between all of the doors were cracked and broken
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the facility is in good repair.

MEDICATION: 16010 - CCLR s.53(1)(a) - If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation: Several items were observed in the first aid kit that had a drug identification number (DIN). Written permission from a parent or guardian is required prior to application. This was discussed during inspection # GSIU-ASBP96
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a medication administration is completed prior to administering any medication.

Comments

At the inspection dated March 3, 2020 there were 16 children and 3 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please send a written response to licensing by March 17, 2020 identifying how the above noted contraventions were corrected. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Promoting Active Play in the program
· Active Supervision
· Lead in the Water

The following resources were provided:
· Reportable Incident Bulletin
· Reportable incident forms

This report was reviewed with the Manager prior to signing.
