Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). Evidence for this report was based on the licensing officer’s observations, review of the facility records, and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.
The following areas were reviewed:

· Nutrition and Food Services

· Records and Reporting
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection, and a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13120 - DLSOP Active Play - The Licensee must develop and implement a Screen Use Policy to guide employees in the use of screen time activities.
Observation: No Screen Use Policy has been developed to date. The facility does not have access to television or technology and the Licensee relayed that she missed adding this policy from last years inspection instructions.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure a Screen Use Policy is developed.

Comments

Three children in care and observed engaged in free play, play dough, and art activities. Consistent care and supervision was observed and the LO discussed care and supervision techniques used in the facility and in the outdoor area.
Water Tap flushing was discussed along with changes to the Legislation with Bill 5. The Licensee relayed that recent communication was not received from Licensing regarding Safety Alert and Bill 5 Updates. LO confirmed the email address and will forward this information.
The Licensee relayed that the facility is sometimes closed on days when children are not requiring care. This has also been noted on the facility file.
A diaper change mat showed signs of wear and tear and was replaced during the inspection.
Discussion occurred regarding one outdoor play area and the plans to add additional bark mulch under the play structure.

Resources shared during today's inspection include;
DLSOP Active Play, Immunization Poster, Lead IN Drinking Water FHA info sheet, Safety Alert Email Info., LO Business card.
