Introduction

A routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: The cupboards underneath the sink in kitchen area of both rooms were not locked and had hazardous materials i.e Bleach bottle and Lysol bathroom cleaner.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that children do not have access to any hazardous materials and the cupboards are kept locked at all times.
Date to be Corrected: Corrected during inspection.

STAFFING: 12190 - CCLR s.22(2)(b) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.
Observation: Fire Drill records were missing since May 2021
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that fire drills are implemented on monthly basis and the fire drill log is maintained,

STAFFING: 12200 - CCLR s.22(2)(c) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.
Observation: Records of yearly emergency evacuation practice was missing
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the records for implemneting the emergnecy plan at least once each year is maintained.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19330 - CCLR s.59(b) - In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (b) keep a record other than one referred to in paragraph (a) in a place from which it can be retrieved within a reasonable time, on request.
Observation: Staff file with all the required documents of the staff was not at the site as the staff goes back and forth between the two sites.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure to have the staff file at both the locations.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
During today's inspection facility had power outage for the first half hour due to high winds. There were 16 children attending in the Caterpillar room and 15 children in attendance in the Butterfly room and 3 staff present.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a written corrective action plan to address the contraventions.
