Introduction

ROUTINE INSPECTION

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Residential Care Regulation (RCR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.

As part of the routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection -
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 31020 - RCR s.14(1) - A licensee must ensure that a person in care who requires a mobility aid may access, in a manner appropriate to the needs of the person in care, all areas intended for use by persons in care.
Observation: During the inspection of the lower level bathroom, and in discussion with staff, it was noted that the shower stall is not accessible to the person in care who requires a mobility aid. The shower on the lower level is for the primary use of this person in care, and no other bathing facility is available to them. To ensure hygiene, staff have been showering the person in care in the bathroom area, however, no floor drain is available, and the shower must be done quickly.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the person in care who requires a mobility aid may access all areas intended for use by the person in care.
Date to be Corrected: Please provide a plan as to how this contravention will be addressed by October 31, 2023.
