Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Semi critical nail implements are disinfected with a high level disinfectant. Items are left in disinfectant for only 10 minutes.
Corrective Action(s): High level disinfectant requires a 20 minute contact time according to the label. Adjust time left in solution to 20 minutes.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Two files used for filing acrylic nails (non critical items) are being washed and disinfected.
Corrective Action(s): Discard all absorbent files after use as they cannot be properly cleaned.

Comments

Routine check.
Services provided: Nails (manicure, pedicure, foot bath, acrylic nails) and Esthetics (eyebrow tints, waxing).
No longer providing eyelash extensions or massage.
Nails:
Critical items - pedicure razor blade is no longer used as per operator. One found on site (staff states is new). Discard into a sharps container.
Semi critical items (cuticle nippers, metal cuticle pushers, nail clippers, metal drill bits, metal foot files)
- High level disinfectant is used undiluted and before expiry date (good). Follow directions on label (wash and rinse implements, dry implements, soak for 20 minutes (not 10) and then you can rinse and dry and store items). CS 20 has a 14 day re-use (meaning change every 14 days or less).
Foot bath
- Acrylic basin with no tubes or jets - good/ easy to clean.
- Disposable plastic liner is used and is discarded after each client - good.
- Foot bath basin is then cleaned with a detergent and disinfected with alcohol mixed with water and bleach (as per operator). ***Do NOT mix chemicals. For disinfecting the foot basin after the liner has been thrown away, use only 1 tsp bleach in 1 cup of water or 5 mL of bleach in 250 mL of water. Make fresh chlorine solution every day and label spray bottle to show what is in the bottle. Do NOT breath in chemicals.
Single Use (Disposable) items (absorbent nail files, drill sanding bands, buffers, callus pads, toe separators, etc.) - are discarded after each client.
***Note: the absorbent files used on acrylic nails are to be discarded after each single use also as they cannot be cleaned.
Esthetics:
Eyebrow tinting (no eyelash tinting)
- Using eyebrow tints that are labelled "for dyeing eyebrows" and "for professional use only" - good.
- Glass cup not in use today but does not appear to be clean. *Clean and disinfect glass cup before next use and after each use.
- Single use swabs, etc.
Waxing
- Tweezers - wash and use high level disinfection (use CS20).
- Single use item (wooden spatulas, waxing strips) are discarded after single use.
General:
- Hand washing sinks (located in staff nail service area, customer area, and washroom) - have liquid soap and paper towels in dispenser.
- Washroom - **make sure there is hot water supply at this sink.
- Clean up sink in back storage room.
- Laundry is done on site - using hot dry.
- General cleaning - good.
