Introduction

An unscheduled follow up to routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: The fence enclosure has a board where one screw was sticking out, providing risk if a child fell onto it while playing.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to establish a system to ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: -GCC(under 36 months) nap room had one plug outlet missing covers. In addition, the outlet box was missing the cover next to where a nap mat was located. This is a repeat contravention.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to establish a system so children do not have acces to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health and safety of a child.

STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: 7 staff files reviewed, no files were site specific, 2 files were RCMP criminal record checks. Licensee stated they were having trouble getting the provincial criminal records review account set up.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to have a site specific criminal records checks for each person.

Summary of Inspection:.
During today’s inspection, there were 32 children, 7 staff and 1 manager present.
At this inspection all items identified in the Routine inspection #TBOS-CART69 have been addressed with exception to the above noted contraventions identified today. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed:
Physical Facility-Discussed the water temperature of classroom sinks
Hygiene and Communicable disease-discussed the change pads cleaning practice. Storage of spray bottles, and food preparation tools.
