Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation: A wading pool in the back yard is indented and in need of cleaning.
Corrective Action(s): The manager said she will remove the wading pool.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: The fire extinguisher has not been serviced in the past 12 months.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the fire extinguisher is serviced a minimum of once every 12 months.

MEDICATION: 16080 - CCALA s.7(1)(b)(i) - A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,
Observation: Medication required in a care plan had expired.
Corrective Action(s): The manager said she will ask the parents for medication with a current expiry date.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: A file for one child does not have contact information for a doctor or a medical clinic.
Corrective Action(s): Please make sure the contact information for the child's medical clinic available.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19260 - CCLR s.58(2)(b) - The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.
Observation: A care plan was not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent.
Corrective Action(s): The manager said she will review the care plan with the child's parents.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated March 5, 2024 there were no children and one staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. This report was reviewed with the manager and written on site. A copy of this report will be emailed to the manager.
