Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were reviewed for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11080 - CCLR s.15(1)(a) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation: During inspection Licensing noted that the carpet in the main play area has evidence of glitter, pet hair etc on it from previous days.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure carpet is vacuumed, cleaned on a regular basis.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation: During inspection Licensing noted that the outdoor picnic table is wobbly, there is a door which has come off an outdoor playhouse, there is one broken plastic chair as well as some broken toys in the outdoor play area.
Corrective Action(s): Repair or replace broken equipment in the outside are.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must have all of the following: (b) an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: During inspection Licensing noted that the hard wired smoke detector in the daycare area has been removed.
Corrective Action(s): Replace smoke detector as it is needed to notify the Licensee of an emergency

Comments

At the inspection dated June 10, 2019 there were 4 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.
Licensee to submit written documentation to Licensing once all violations have been addressed, by July 10, 2019.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

During inspection Licensing observed children engaged in free play, reading books, having a picnic snack and playing outside. Licensing observed the staff person interacted with children while they were engaged in activities.
