Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation: During the inspection the manager was unable to provide the policies and procedures related to care and supervision of children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that all policies and procedures are available to all staff.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19030 - CCLR s.55(2)(a) - A licensee must notify the medical health officer within 24 hours after (a) a child is involved in, or may have been involved in, a reportable incident described in Schedule H while under the care or supervision of the licensee.
Observation: During the inspection the log book was reviewed and it was noted that a reportable incident from December 2021 was documented in the log book but was not reported to the licensing officer.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all reportable incidents are reported within 24 hours after the child was involved in the incident.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19210 - CCLR s.58(1)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.
Observation: During the inspection it was revealed that 6 children requiring extra support did not have a care plan.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children requiring extra support have a care plan available.

Comments

At the inspection dated January 20, 2022 there were 26 children, 3 staff and the manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee and actions required the LO included here. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Care plans for children requiring extra support
· Reportable Incidents process and reporting
· Active Supervision
· Having a system in place for staff files
· Having a system in place for staff credentials (certificates)

· Reportable incident forms
· Care Plan Bulletin
