Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: A step stool in the yard washroom and the area around the toilet are in need of cleaning.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the yard washroom is kept clean.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19260 - CCLR s.58(2)(b) - The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.
Observation: One care plan was not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent. Staff said they have talked to the family and there have been no changes to the child's needs although this had not been recorded on the care plan.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure care plans are reviewed at least once every 12 months and that evidence of this is available.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated August 15, 2022 there were 36 children and eight staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. This report was reviewed with an ECE staff member and written off site. A copy of this report will be emailed to the facility.
The following was discussed with the staff person.
Care Plans - if a child has a care plan and requires medication, the care plan must be reviewed annually and the medication must be available. If a child's family states the child no longer needs the care plan it can be removed from the care plan file.
