Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Upon inspection of the indoor facility there are items placed up high in both the hallway and classrooms that pose a fall hazard. This is a repeat contravention.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times that the children are in care.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11480 - CCALA s.7(1)(b)(i) - A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,
Observation: Upon inspection of the outdoor equipment:
-There was an airplane climber that had a screw sticking out
-1 metal boat with exposed sharp edges and rotting wood
-Loose wood coming off the wooden play house
-One hole in ground in infant yard that leads to the cement, which is a tripping hazard. If the child runs they could fall landing on the cement.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated November 20, 2019 there were 48 children and 10 staff present. Manager stated that there are 83 children registered in the program. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee will provide Licensing with a written response.Licensing will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility.
Licensing had a discussion with the manager regarding repairs in the playground and toy/equipment cleaning.

The following education/recommendations were provided:

· Lead in the Water
