Introduction

An Unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12050 - CCLR s.19(1)(b) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation: A minimum of two character references were not obtained for one or more employees.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to obtain character references in respect to all persons employed at your facility.

STAFFING: 12090 - CCLR s.19(1)(f) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Observation: Immunization status was not obtained for one or more employees.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to obtain evidence that an employee has complied with the Provinc's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

Comments

At the inspection on January 13, 2022 there were 8 children and 2 staff present.
At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified.

The following discussion was had with the licensee:
* First aid had wipes with an NPN number and containing medicinal ingredients. Licensee can remove from kit, label wipes for staff use only, or obtain permission specific to the wipe for each child enrolled in the program. Licensee indicated she will remove from the kit.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed off site and a copy was provided.
