Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During the inspection licensing observed the following:
-Several cleaning products were observed. In reading the instructions on the products the product is required to stay on the surface for 10 minutes to disinfect. Bleach and water are recommended for use
-Two bottles filled with bleach and water are required. One bottle is required for the kitchen and one is required for the washroom. This will reduce the potential for cross-contamination.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times to the children in care.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Licensing observed the supplies in the emergency kit. Diapers and a sufficient amount of food is required to be added. Diapers were added to the emergency kit during the inspection
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the emergency evacuation kit has sufficient emergency supplies to be prepared in case of emergency.

MEDICATION: 16010 - CCLR s.53(1)(a) - If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation: Licensing observed the items in the first aid kit. Several items that contained a Drug Identification Number (DIN) were observed in the first aid kit. Permission from parents to apply this medication was not observed in the child's record.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to receive permission from parents prior to applying any items with a DIN number

Comments

At the inspection dated November 15, 2023 there were 1 children, and the Licensee was present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please correct the above noted contraventions by November 22, 2023 unless otherwise specified in the report. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was sent to the Licensee.

The following information was discussed:
-The reportable incident reporting procedure.
-The current cleaning protocols that are in place
-Preventing lead in the water
