Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: A current criminal record check is not available for the manager. The manager stated that she applied for a new clearance last year but it has not been received. The manager will contact the Criminal Record Review Agency to check the status of her request and if needed will submit a new application.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a valid criminal record check is available for all persons living at the facility address.

NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES: 17010 - CCLR s.48(1)(a) - A licensee must (a) ensure that each child has healthy food and drink according to the Canada's Food Guide.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The fridge temperature at the time of this inspection was 12c. To ensure safe storage of food please ensure that the fridge temperature is between 0-4c. CCFL recommends that the Licensee purchase a fridge thermometer.
Corrective Action(s): The temperature of the fridge was corrected during this inspection.

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated November 1, 2021 there were six children and two staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. This report was reviewed with the manager and written off site. A copy of this report and the risk assessment will be emailed to the manager. Total time includes office time.
The following education/recommendations were provided:
Continuing to follow all Covid-19 protocols including extra cleaning of the facility and daily health checks.
