Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulation. All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Three containers of diaper cream had passed their expiration date.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all diaper creams have a current expiry date.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Electrical cords were accessible to children in the nap room.
Corrective Action(s): The cords were removed during this inspection.

CARE AND/OR SUPERVISION: 14030 - CCLR s.34(2)(b) - Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.
Observation: There were 10 children and 2 staff present when the Licensing Officer arrived at the facility. Three staff are needed when 10 children are present. The manager stated staff shifts are based on expected arrival time of children and today some children arrived earlier than expected.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the staff:child ratio is in compliance with Schedule E CCLR at all times.

Comments

At this inspection dated November 2, 2021 there were 12 children and 3 staff present. During this inspection the above contraventions were noted. The manager will provide a written response stating how the contraventions have been addressed. The Licensing Officer will review the response. This inspection was reviewed with the manager and a copy provided.
The following were discussed with the manager:
Label the bleach/water bottle with the contents.
Ensure staff have access to information regarding actions that need to be taken if a child has a reaction (sensitivity) to food products.
