Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Residential Care Regulation (RCR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.

As part of the routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #VDAN-AT7S9V have been corrected except for those noted on supplementary pages.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 32050 - RCR s.37(1)(e) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has obtained all of the following: (e) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Observation: Upon review of 5 staff files iot was noted that 2 staff were missing evidence of coompliance with the TB control program.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all staff are in compliance with the TB control programs

STAFFING: 32310 - RCR s.51(3) - A licensee must ensure that each employee is trained in the implementation of the plans described in subsection (1), including in the use of any equipment noted in the plan.
Observation: During review of the fire and emergency drills it was noted that documentation for 2 drills were missing in February and October. (This a repeat contravention from previous inspection)
Corrective Action(s): Ensure monthly drills are completed and documented as part of the emergency preparedness training for staff

HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 35040 - RCR s.63(1) - A licensee must ensure that all food is safely prepared, stored, served and handled.
Observation: During the inspection it was noted that a few items in the freezer were not labeled with dates or item descriptions
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all food is dated and labeled in the freezer

Thank you to the management, staff and individuals at Wingate House for their participation in the Routine inspection.

The house looks great and is decorated in a very homey way. All Individuals rooms are personalized and comfortable.
