Introduction

An unscheduled/scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #SCLY-AMNTW4 have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Carpet consists of a worn area with exposed flooring beneath.
Corrective Action(s): please ensure facility is in good repair- extended time to replace , repair provided.

HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Children engaged in Handwashing prior to snack however it is noted in discussion that the tables are not sanitized prior to coming into contact with food. The staff used bleach and water to wipe down the tables prior to snack once this step was reviewed.
Corrective Action(s): please ensure food contact surfaces are sanitized prior to use in order to promote an healthy environment.

Summary of Inspection,
At the inspection conducted Dec 12, 2018 there were 2 staff and 16 children present ,At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.
Licensing arrived to observed children transtioning into the program from their classrooms, Kindergarten children are escorted.

Observed free play, snack, story and preparation to Active Play. Activity sheets are detailed providing information on planned events , attendance etc.
Reviewed Screen Time Policy which includes 30 mins in length for screen time, noted on occasion a movie may be viewed which would exceed this length of time.
Discussed revising the policy to accurately reflect the times and length of times in which Screen Time is utilized.
Reviewed system for playground maintenance and monitoring , checklist in place however it is noted staff are not consistent in documenting - provided some suggestions in ensuring the checks which take place as stated by staff are documented.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
