Introduction

All areas of the community care facility (CCF) were inspected for compliance during an unscheduled routine inspection to assess compliance w/ the:
• Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA)
• Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR)
• relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP)

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: There was means of sanitary hand drying (e.g., paper towel or individual hand towel) available in the bathroom.
Corrective Action(s): The licensee must ensure that children dry their hands sanitarily after handwashing.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): 1/8 child lacked his MSP #.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19110 - CCLR s.57(2)(e) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (e) any illness, allergy or medical disability disclosed to the licensee by the child or his or her parent or medical practitioner.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): 1 child has an epi-pen, but there's nothing in her file about requiring an epi-pen. Another child's file speaks of having an allergy, but there's no information re. medication or action required, if any.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19140 - CCLR s.57(2)(h)(i) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (h) any special instruction respecting the child's diet, medication, participation in a program of activities, or other matter relevant to the child's care, (i) given by the child's parent to the licensee in writing.
Observation: There's no written consent from parents re. diaper cream or sunscreen application.
Corrective Action(s): The licensee must ensure that medication (even if not prescribed) is only administered w/ parents' written consent.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19220 - CCLR s.58(1)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.
Observation: 2 children requiring extra support lack a care plan.
Corrective Action(s): The licensee must ensure that there's a written care plan in place for any child who requires extra support.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19250 - CCLR s.58(2)(a) - The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.
Observation: 2 children requiring extra support lack a care plan.
Corrective Action(s): The licensee must develop a care plan for children requiring extra support, in consultation w/ the parent.
