Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted on November 9, 2020 to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas were inspected for compliance.
A Covid-19 Risk screening assessment was completed with the facility prior to completing this inspection.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Upon inspection, Licensing observed an infant in his crib pulling a bag with fabric into his crib.The child was reaching for other equipment also to put in his crib which poses a hazard.The Licensee stated that she will move all the items away from the sleep area so they are inaccessible to the infants.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while the children are in care.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11160 - CCLR s.16(3)(a) - A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.
Observation: Upon inspection of the outdoor play area, there was a large gap under the gate that a child could potentially crawl under and leave the premise.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the entire outdoor play area is enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that the children are free from harm.

Comments

At the inspection dated November 9, 2020 there were 6 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee will provide Licensing with a written response.Licensing will review the response. As part of this Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool & A Covid-19 Infection Control Assessment were completed and copies were provided.

The information contained in the report was discussed with the Licensee and Licensing stated that the report will be emailed to the facility.
